Upper Limb Intensive Therapy
Researched based. Outcome focused. Results driven.
To achieve functional goals, intensive practice is essential. At Neurohub the Shire, we incorporate robotics and technology alongside traditional Occupational Therapy and neurological rehabilitation methods to achieve good quality, intensive practice, helping our clients achieve goals.
Why intensives
Evidence has proven that completing a high volume of specific, good quality practice can help drive neuroplasticity and motor learning. High intensity practice of specific and good quality movements, at the right challenge level ensures the building of neural pathways can take place to help our clients achieve their goals and participate in everyday activities.
How can using Technology & Robotics Help?
At Neurohub The Shire, we use state-of-the-art, specialised robotics and technology from Tyromotion to help increase the amount of quality practice one is able to achieve during our Upper Limb intensive therapy programs. Our technology offers an engaging and motivating form of training that allows for higher levels of intensity and repetitions of goal specific movements. These devices, in combination with the expertise of our skilled Upper Limb Occupational Therapists, allows our clients to work towards their goals and achieve the best possible rehabilitation outcomes.
What does an Upper Limb Intensive Program look like for me?
Our Upper Limb Intensive Programs at Neurohub The Shire vary greatly from person to person. This is because each program is uniquely tailored to each participant based on their individual needs. Generally, our programs can run for up to 5 days a week for 1-2 weeks, for 3-5 hours of therapy per day. This allows for high intensity practice. Within this we offer clinic based, home based and Tele-health based therapy, as deemed suitable during the initial assessment. During an Upper Limb Intensive Program, the Tyromotion devices will be utilised, as well as ongoing feedback and coaching input from your Occupational Therapist to improve the functional use of your affected arm or hands. Each day, practice will be graded to ensure the βjust right challengeβ allowing for progression within the intensive block of therapy. An individually tailored home exercise program will also be assigned to ensure a large volume of repetitions is completed each day, so we can really drive neuroplasticity and rehabilitation of the arm and hand. This home program also ensures what you are learning at Neurohub The Shire, can be transferred to your day-to-day life.
If this sounds like something you or your loved one may be interested in, please contact us to book in for an Initial Assessment where our Occupational Therapists can discuss this with you further.
*Note* An Upper Limb Intensive Program is different to a CIMT Program in that a CIMT program involves mitt-use on the unaffected arm, strict training principles, longer hours/weeks and utilises table-top shaping tasks only, please read our information pamphlet on our CIMT programs for more information.
